And the good thing about this free vsphere ESXi is that this license key can be deployed on an unlimited number of physical hosts, but is restricted to deployment on less than or equal to 100 Physical Servers. its cool right you can use the license in up to 100 machines .

Okay going back to main topic assuming you already have the free license keys and free hypervisor .ISO and was already installed the latest ESXi 6.0 release we can start now to manage this vsphere using the VMware Workstation 12 pro. If your not done it yet you ca refer to my other post How to install VMware ESXi 6.0 in VMware Workstation 12 pro (Nested Lab) to install the ESXi

Now that you have successfully installed the free vsphere in your workstation we can manage this now using the vmware workstation 12 pro however you can still use the conventional login using the vpshere client but this require multiple instance of vpshere client to open to manage your free esxi.

Step 1: Power-on your ESXi in your VMware Workstation and add this to manage it

After you click the “Connect” button there will be a warning message windows.  just select the checkbox “Always trust this  host with this certificate” then click “Continue anyway”

Then make sure you select the “Remember” so that it will not ask for password again.

Repeat the same process for other ESXi just like in the step 3 to connect in the second vSphere Host

Step 4: Now you will see like this in below image you can now start to create your VM by selecting the “Create a new virtual machine” link

If you will manage from the VMworkstation some of the options is not listed here in you notice when you click the vsphere hosts. If you want to key-in the vsphere key that VMware generated you must login in the vsphere client and type the license key over there.

Now that you entered the license keys it will not expire and you can use it to create your VMs however there is a catch if you notice the in the above image that the feature was almost all are disabled after the license key was use.

And that’s it you can now manage your free esxi using the workstation. you can test, simulate your HA settings or features of the VMware ESXi product now using this method. Good Luck.
